Galaxies in Glass: An Evening with Abby Modell

Meet the Artist — Saturday, July 11, 6–9 PM

Contessa Gallery, 9 Main Street, Southampton, NY

Contessa Gallery presents an evening with Abby Modell, whose one-of-a-kind hand-blown glass translates the light of the cosmos into form. Inspired by ultra-luminous swirling stars and their ever-changing rotation, Modell layers matte, mirrored, and gloss glass with DiamondDust™ fire-polished assemblages and Swarovski crystals, creating textural galactic surfaces that shift with every hour of the day. Ombré palettes and dichroic glass cast rainbows of light within many works.

On view are sculptural vessels, three-dimensional wall works, and LED lighting from the artist's Galaxy Collection. Modell's work is held in private, corporate, and museum collections including the National Liberty Museum, Morgan Stanley's world headquarters, and the Fontainebleau Miami Beach; the Medici Museum of Art recently acquired her monumental wall installation Rainbow Galaxy for its entrance.

The artist will be present. Light refreshments will be served.
